Previous Assignment: Trebuchet Part 2

Trebuchet Part 3

Next Assignment: Trebuchet Part 4
  1. Step 3b: Prototype'. Using the laser cutter in E1-135 (or the Idea Shop), fabricate your design.  You may complete this portion of the project individually or with one other student.  No groups of three are allowed. Both students must have completed the previous assignment.  You may simply choose one design out of the two.
  2. I will not accept any designs that use tape, wire, or string to hold parts together, even if the design works.  We are engineers, not hackers!

Grading

8 Points  + Bonus
  1. Trebuchet. We will launch during lab time. You will have 4 chances to launch before lab time is over.  Once lab time is over, the grading is over. Your grade will be determined by your best launch.
  • <5m = 0pts
  • >5m = 2pts
  • >8m = 4 pts
  • >10m = 6pts
  • >12m = 8 pts
  • >15m = 10pts (2 bonus!)
  • >21.5 m = 10pts plus bragging rights of the longest launch ever.  Current record stands as of fall 2014.  Someone came close in 2018.  Can you beat it?

Educational Goals

Understand the difference between designing on paper and fabricating a working machine.
